Happy Holidays to All!

happyholidayssanta

I’ve gotten a bit caught up in the last minute details of this weekend’s Christmas festivities so I haven’t posted this week. I have lots of ideas for January and beyond so I hope to start off the new year with a bang. I will probably be on a limited schedule next week as well, but I will be posting about some awesome transitional ideas for mixing up your holiday decor and helping to ring in the New Year. Friday Flair: Modern Malachite

ffmalachiteredbow

I follow a lot of trends, but I also go with what my heart and soul are drawn to. It doesn’t matter that it might have gotten popular a few years ago or that it might not make a real comeback for a few more years. If you have seen my Living Room Christmas decor you will quickly realize I am having a renewed love affair with all things neoclassical. I was really into it early on in my 20’s and was always a huge fan of Ballard Designs who carried a lot of these types of items back in the 1990s. Well on that note, I think Malachite fits right in with my Black, White, and Gold ornate motifs! Continue reading “Friday Flair: Modern Malachite”

My Whimsical Christmas Kitchen

snowmancloseup

Everyone needs a little whimsy and what better time than the holidays and in the kitchen! I have an absolutely tiny vintage galley kitchen, so there isn’t a lot of room to do much, but I always display my Snowman collection. I’ve been collecting vintage ones for many years; many are ceramic, wax, or candles. Some are in great condition, some not so much, but I think they all have a ton of charm. I rarely buy any new ones unless they are reproductions of vintage styles. This year, I bought a vintage three-tiered tin tray to display them in. It’s a little rustic and shabby, but all kitchen. Friday Flair: Black Watch Tartan

flairheaderplaid

Tartan plaids are about as classic as they come and this time of year is definitely when we start to re-embrace them. As much as I love the classic red patterns, my favorite has to be the Black Watch Tartan with it’s Black, Hunter Green, and Navy combination.

For apparel, I think this combo is the easiest to integrate into our wardrobes from top to bottom since it has so many neutral qualities. Whether you pair it with denim for a casual look or with black or navy for a work look you will always look stylish and original.

Pantone 2017 Color of the Year: Greenery

I was going to share a different post with you, but I had to stop the presses due to the announcement of Pantone’s 2017 color of the year…GREENERY! I had this marked on my calendar, but somehow forgot with my busy regular schedule. So let’s just say that I am a green gal! I love green and all shades of it! I will say though, that this year’s selection is a little challenging to use indoors unless you primarily add hints of it in actual Greenery (plants, of course). To me the shade speaks to outdoor furniture and I have indeed used this color on one of my patio sets. I even have a partial roll of some Sunbrella fabric that matches this color perfectly!

Let’s bring this back inside though. I think this color selection goes great with two of my favorite fun design styles…Chinoiserie and Palm Beach Chic! Now I am getting excited because I am slowly working on transforming my den into a colorful creative haven of these two styles and this shade of green always sneaks in somewhere.
