Happy Holidays to All!

happyholidayssanta

I’ve gotten a bit caught up in the last minute details of this weekend’s Christmas festivities so I haven’t posted this week. I have lots of ideas for January and beyond so I hope to start off the new year with a bang. I will probably be on a limited schedule next week as well, but I will be posting about some awesome transitional ideas for mixing up your holiday decor and helping to ring in the New Year. Friday Flair: Modern Malachite

ffmalachiteredbow

I follow a lot of trends, but I also go with what my heart and soul are drawn to. It doesn’t matter that it might have gotten popular a few years ago or that it might not make a real comeback for a few more years. If you have seen my Living Room Christmas decor you will quickly realize I am having a renewed love affair with all things neoclassical. I was really into it early on in my 20’s and was always a huge fan of Ballard Designs who carried a lot of these types of items back in the 1990s. Well on that note, I think Malachite fits right in with my Black, White, and Gold ornate motifs! Continue reading “Friday Flair: Modern Malachite”

My Whimsical Christmas Kitchen

snowmancloseup

Everyone needs a little whimsy and what better time than the holidays and in the kitchen! I have an absolutely tiny vintage galley kitchen, so there isn’t a lot of room to do much, but I always display my Snowman collection. I’ve been collecting vintage ones for many years; many are ceramic, wax, or candles. Some are in great condition, some not so much, but I think they all have a ton of charm. I rarely buy any new ones unless they are reproductions of vintage styles. This year, I bought a vintage three-tiered tin tray to display them in. It’s a little rustic and shabby, but all kitchen. Room Tour: Black, White, and Gold Christmas

roomtourbwchristmas

Welcome to my Living Room Christmas Tour! Today I will highlight my tree and my mantel. This year I decided to go with a Black, White, and Gold theme. I’ve done varieties of this in years past, but I decided to go a little old school and channel my love for Ballard Designs back in the day. They do say, what’s old is new again, so that’s what I am going with. I have added boxwood for greenery, some neoclassical accents, and plenty of gold. Friday Flair: Cookie Art

flairheaderred

I am a baker, I make cookies every year, but I am not good at decorating them and I am most certainly not a cookie artist! I have visions of perfectly flooded royal icing in seasonal colors on wonderfully shaped cookies with scrolling details and shimmering glitter accents, but you see, that is all in my head. I decided many years ago to stop trying to decorate cookies and just make really good non-cookie cutter cookies! But, that does not mean I can’t look. Continue reading “Friday Flair: Cookie Art”

A Snowy Christmas

Photo: CarolinaBlues

I’ve been to the snow one real time, cross country skied once, and hardly have any clothes warm enough for real cold weather, but I have the usual case of you want what you can’t have. As much as I love living in California with the mild weather, sometimes I think it would be so nice to have a classic Christmas in the snow with all the traditional fixings (Vermont perhaps?). Hot chocolate, sleigh rides, bundling in blankets by the fire, singing carols, you know, all the stuff Hallmark movies are made of. Continue reading “A Snowy Christmas”
